Tyr, the legislator
TYR
Tyr |
Tyr is a god of war (Aesir) and is usually related to law
and justice. Tyr lacks a hand due to one of the most important and determining
conflicts of the Norse mythology, his sacrifice may seem insignificant, but he
saved the lives of the other gods.
Some time ago, Fenrir, a wolf son of Loki, was on the
loose, and the gods feared the possibility that this wolf would destroy the
world, that is why they decided to imprison him. Fenrir was impossible to
catch, breaking all the chains that placed him, but the gods asked the dwarves
for help and they made a magic tape called Gleipnir, which was able to
immobilize any person or thing. But Fenrir realized that the gods were cheating
him by placing that tape, so he asked that one of the gods put his hand in the
mouth of the ferocious wolf. That god was Tyr, and when Fenrir realized the
true deception of the gods he gritted his teeth and devoured Tyr's hand.
